What is FSN?
The Forest Seedling Network is an interactive website committed to the efficient distribution of surplus and speculatively grown seedlings between landowners and growers. The site is especially designed to assist first time family forest seedling users and casual intermittent forest landowners who are unfamiliar with acquiring proper seedlings for their planting site. The site provides the information for a connection between Posters and Searching parties. FSN does not broker transactions.
Why FSN?
- Complexity of seed source requirements
- Uncertainty of seedling need year to year
- Casual users are unfamiliar with the process and find it difficult to find the correct seedlings for their site
- Need to streamline for growers and landowners to save time
What does FSN do?
The primary objective is to get forest seedlings planted in the correct seed zones and assist landowners in less popular zones to find seedlings that are available for their planting site. The Forest Seedling category has a comprehensive seed zone identification module that allows a landowner to click the planting site on a map and get information. We refer to this as
“Map Search”.
“Map Search” returns the seed zones relative to the planting site and any currently posted lots that match the seed zone(s) for the planting site. In addition to the zone maps users are be able to go directly to the Advanced Search section and query for postings that fit their personal criteria. The site has modules designed to serve other seedling categories. In addition to Forest Seedlings and Christmas Tree Seedlings the site supports other closely related areas of the seedling growing industry including Native Woody Plant Seedlings, Conifer Liner Stock Seedlings and Forest Tree Seed. These different classifications are referred to as “Product Groups”.
The site also hosts a
vendor Service Directory, a primary resource that helps Forest land owners locate forest seedling growers, planting contractors, forest management equipment suppliers, forestry consultants and general planting and plantation management references.
What area does FSN serve?
The Website serves the Pacific Northwest states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and California.
Who is FSN?
The site is developed, funded, and maintained by FSN, Inc. dba Forest Seedling Network as a “for profit” enterprise. Revenue is generated through seedling postings and vendor advertising. Please
contact FSN for questions, feedback and requests.
