August 2016 Forest Seedling Network e-Newsletter

Posts and Cone Collections:

2016-17 POSTS are now being made. Landowners who need seedlings for the 2016-17 planting season should start looking. Let the Forest Seedling Network help you. Follow this link to Search Seedlings. Make selections left to right in the boxes - 'State' / 'Product Group' / 'Species'. If you do not know your seed zone use 'Map Search'. Just put the icon x on your planting site. The associated seed zones will show on the map and the POSTS available are listed below. Click Show POSTS. Review the list and select the POST that best fits your needs. On the right side of the POST line click the 'View Details'. Call the contact person to ask questions and order.

Tip! - Did you know that as you add perimeters the number of POSTS remaining is listed on the left side above 'Results' in green banner.

There are cone crops in many areas this year. Landowners can collect cones from their own property or collaborate with neighbors to start their own seed bank. Time is getting short. Be sure you have lined up a cone processor for your collection.

There is basic information in the USFS Woody Plant Manual 727 Chapter 3. This info is south east oriented so check with your cone processor for local details. You can access the entire handbook in FSN Resource Section under Links.
